  • Malvin Bunata Wibowo (he/they) is a designer and videographer fascinated by the convergence of architecture, design, and film. They hold a Master of Architecture II from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture with Distinction. Malvin also received the Blythe and Thom Mayne Undergraduate Thesis Prize, which reflects the institution’s core mission in pushing the limits of architecture.

    Malvin's work delves into diverse perspectives on design: cultural, social, material, and political. They are dedicated to using design as a catalyst for nuanced discussions on contemporary issues. Additionally, Malvin is enthusiastic about music, performing arts, and film.

    Before joining STUDIO ENÉE, Malvin was one of 49 young professionals selected for the Venice Biennale Architecture 2023 program, where they co-founded Monsters of Radical Empathy. This collective aims to integrate empathy into design practice and pedagogy. Malvin is also collaborating with vague.space on "arc of arc," an architectural interview series featuring renowned architects from Mexico, Japan, India, Europe, and the United States, including Kengo Kuma, Junya Ishigami, Kazuyo Sejima, Tatiana Bilbao, Victor Legorreta, Marina Tabassum, and more.

    Awarded the best undergraduate thesis prize by Blythe & Thom Mayne, reflecting SCI-Arc’s core mission to test the limits of architecture.

    Biennale College Archittetura, The Laboratory of the Future

    Participated in The Laboratory of the Future one-month program organized by Leslie Lokko, where 50 young professionals gathered to discuss and reframe the architectural discourse around decolonization and decarbonization.

    Model Behavior Publication

    Assisted in designing the Gameboard with BairBalliet for The Model Behavior Exhibition. The work is published in Log 56: The Model Behavior and exhibited at The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union, curated by Anyone Corporation.

  • Project Assistant and Architectural Designer at BairBalliet

    Designed various design projects including Imperfection for Model Behavior, No More Room, Boys and Girls Club of Metro LA, Writer’s Block, and many more.

    Research Assistant at Southern California Institute of Architecture

    Co-designed a workshop with Lance Arevalo called Itinerant Platform under the supervision of Frederik Emil Seehusen for students at Abaarso Tech University in Somaliland, Hargeisa.

    Assisted Diego Grass with a seminar titled Talking Architecture for the production of an interview with the former Chair of the Department of Architecture Mark Lee.

    Assisted teaching for SCI-Arc’s first and second-year undergraduate design studio

    Youth Outreach Program Coordinator at Southern California Institute of Architecture

    Worked closely with Betty Kassis in coordinating the youth outreach program, designed for high school students that were hosted in-house, at Institute of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (ICALA), and Los Angeles City College (LACC).
